A Blessing, from Henri-Frédéric Amiel

My friends,
Life is short, and we do not have
much time to gladden the hearts of
those who travel with us, so be swift to
love and make haste to be kind.
And may the blessing of the One who
made us, and the One who loves us, and
the One who travels with us, be with
you and those you love this day and always.

Adapted from Henri-Frédéric Amiel (1821–1881)

I’ve also seen this rephrased to be a beautiful final benediction after a time of worship:

Life is short,
And we do not have much time
to gladden the hearts of those who
make the journey with us.
So… be swift to love,
and make haste to be kind.
And the blessing of God,
who made us,
who loves us,
and who travels with us
be with you now and forever. Amen.
